What does your car need in spring?

Winter on Öland is hard on cars. Salt from the roads works its way into the underbody and the brake lines. Grit strikes the paint and the windscreen. Cold and damp wear on the battery, the rubber seals and the wiper blades. When spring finally arrives — and it arrives late in northern Öland — it’s time to give the car the attention it deserves.

The obvious job is the switch to summer tyres. But spring is about more than tyres. It’s about finding what the winter damaged before it becomes an expensive problem. A small patch of rust on the underbody. A brake pad that has worn unevenly. A spring that has been creaking all winter and is now starting to give. None of this is visible from the outside — but we find it during a spring check.

Björn likes to say spring is the best time to look after the car. Not because it’s urgent, but because you have time to plan. Summer is coming, and when it does you want the car simply to work.

The spring checklist — summer tyres and more

Do it yourself:

• Wash the car properly — including the wheel arches and underbody. Get all the winter salt off.
• Check the wipers — cracked or worn blades? Replace them.
• Check the lights — all sidelights, main beam and brake lights.
• Look at the washer fluid — switch to summer concentrate.

Let us check:

• Summer tyres — tread depth, wear, balancing
• Brakes — pads, discs, brake fluid
• Underbody — rust damage, stone chips, loose parts
• Springs and dampers — wear after salt and grit
• Battery — capacity test after the strain of winter
• AC system — the first check ahead of summer
• Exhaust system — rust in the catalytic converter or silencer

The summer tyre change is what most people book. We handle every size — cars, motorhomes, trucks and tractors. If your tyres are in our tyre hotel, we call you when it’s time. We fit, balance and torque them. It takes about 30 minutes.

A spring check means we go through the whole checklist above. We put the car on the lift, look underneath, measure the brakes and test the battery. It takes about an hour and costs less than most people expect. You get an honest assessment — what needs doing now and what can wait.

Motorhomes and summer vehicles — do you have a motorhome, a motorcycle or a classic car that has been laid up over winter? We’ll help you get it going again. Battery charging, oil levels, brake check and a test drive. Better to find problems in the workshop than on the E22.

Agricultural machinery — for those of you farming on Öland, we know spring is the starting gun. Tractors, harrows and seed drills have to get out into the fields. We service agricultural vehicles with the same precision as cars — tyre changes, filters, oils and hydraulics. Call us directly if you need a machine ready by a particular time.
