Towbar fitting and wiring
We fit towbars with wiring on cars, estates, SUVs, vans and motorhomes. Fixed or detachable, with the right socket and coding for your car. Book in spring, before the trailer and caravan season.
Car
On Öland you need a trailer more often than you'd think. Garden waste to the recycling centre, firewood for the winter, a boat down to the slip. With a towbar on the car you don't have to borrow or rent.
Not every car is allowed to tow. We first check the towing weight in the registration certificate and whether the car is approved for a towbar at all. Then we fit a towbar and wiring that suit your exact model. The towbar is EU type-approved and made for your car.

The estate is the family's towing car. The caravan in summer, the bike rack at Easter, the trailer when someone moves house. Many prefer a detachable towbar so it stays out of sight the rest of the year.
A bike rack on the towbar loads the ball from above. That's why the nose weight matters, not just the towing weight. We help you choose a towbar for how you'll actually use it. A detachable towbar costs more than a fixed one, but stays out of sight when not in use.

An SUV is often bought precisely because it tows heavy loads. A horse trailer, a boat trailer or a large caravan. Then the towbar, the wiring and the car's systems have to work together.
On newer cars, running cables isn't enough. The car needs to know a trailer is hitched so that stability control, parking sensors and bulb monitoring work properly. That's why we use a car-specific wiring kit and code the car after fitting. If your make needs the dealer's system for the coding, we tell you before we start.

For the tradesman, a van with a trailer is a warehouse on wheels. Machines, timber and materials that don't fit inside ride on the trailer behind.
A work van often tows close to its maximum weight, every week. The towbar has to handle that, and the wiring has to cope with being plugged in and out many times. We fit a towbar and 13-pin socket built for daily use.

With a towbar on the motorhome you can bring a small car, a boat or a trailer with bikes. The motorhome can then stay at the campsite while you get around the island freely.
A motorhome is already heavy, so the margin to the permitted gross train weight can be small. We go through the registration certificate with you before fitting, so you know what you're actually allowed to tow. A motorhome must have a registration inspection after the towbar is fitted, and sometimes the chassis has to be extended. We cover that before we start.

Fit it before the season
A towbar is a job you can plan. Book in spring and the car is ready when the caravan, boat or bike rack comes out. Plan to leave the car for the day, as newer cars also need coding.

Check the towing weight in the papers
The car's maximum permitted trailer weight is in the registration certificate. Also check that your driving licence covers the combination: B, B96 or BE. On an EU type-approved car or light van, no inspection is needed after fitting, as long as the towbar is approved for the car and professionally fitted. A motorhome, however, always needs a registration inspection.

Choose a 13-pin socket
A 13-pin socket handles both trailers and caravans, with reversing light and power to the caravan. If the trailer has a 7-pin plug, an adapter does the job.

Ask for a price
The price depends on the car model, the type of towbar and the wiring kit. Call us with your registration number and we'll give you an answer. In Sweden a fitted towbar with wiring usually costs 5,000–14,000 SEK, more on electric and premium cars.
