Clutch and brakes
Brakes and clutches are two big jobs, but they can be planned. Spot the signs in time and you can book the car in when it suits you, leave it with us in Löttorp and collect it when it's done.
Car
A car in northern Öland covers long distances. It's a long way to work, to the shops and to the mainland. Brakes and clutch wear at a steady pace, and the first sign is often a noise or a feeling in the pedal.
If it squeals or grinds when you brake, or the pedal vibrates, it's time to look at discs and pads. If the clutch slips uphill or bites high, it's wearing out. Call when you notice it and we'll book the car in before it becomes urgent.

An estate often carries more than you think. A full boot, a trailer of firewood or a boat behind. That is weight both brakes and clutch have to handle, every time.
Pulling away uphill with a trailer is hard on the clutch. If you notice a burning smell afterwards, or the revs rise without the car pulling, let us know. We also check the rear brakes, which work harder when the car is loaded.

An SUV is heavier than an ordinary car. That's why it has larger brake discs and heavier-duty pads, which also cost more when they need replacing.
More weight means more heat in the brakes. If the steering wheel shakes when you brake from speed, the discs may be warped. We measure and tell you whether new pads are enough or the discs need replacing too.

A van runs loaded and stops often. Many pull-aways, many brake applications and a lot of weight wear both brakes and clutch faster than on an ordinary car.
When the van stops, the work stops. That's why it pays to book the job ahead instead of waiting for the clutch to give up. Call and we'll plan a day that suits your business.

A motorhome stands still most of the year and is heavy once it rolls. Brakes that stand can rust and stick, and a fully loaded motorhome going downhill asks a lot of them.
If the motorhome pulls to one side when you brake, or a wheel smells hot after a drive, a brake may be sticking. Book a brake and clutch check over the winter so the motorhome is ready when the season starts.

On a motorcycle the brakes are everything. There's no bodywork to protect you, and the rider feels straight away if something in the brake or clutch has changed.
Thin pads, old brake fluid or a slipping clutch shouldn't wait until after summer. Bring the bike in before the season and we'll go over the brakes and clutch before you ride out.

- schedule
Book in February or March
February and March are quieter in the workshop. That makes it easier to find a time that suits you. Leave the car in the morning and we'll call when it's ready.

The signs to watch for
Brakes: squealing, grinding, longer stopping distances or a vibrating pedal. Clutch: revs rise without the car pulling, the clutch bites high, a burning smell or the car judders as you let the pedal up.

Brakes are replaced in pairs
Discs and pads are replaced on both sides of the same axle so the car brakes straight. We measure the discs and tell you if new pads are enough.

What does it cost?
In Sweden new brake pads usually cost 800–2,500 SEK per axle including labour. If the discs are replaced too, they come on top. A clutch change is a bigger job, as the gearbox usually has to come out. The price depends on the car model and the parts. Call and tell us which car you have, and you'll get a price before we start.
